I think it was the SaveMe version of Rebit which made it possible to store non-Rebit data on the same hard drive. But this utility is virtually unusable because there's no way to turn Rebit off so that it won't start up upon connection. The last thing I want is for Rebit to be operating when I'm trying to store or retrieve non-Rebit data from the hard drive. Does Rebit 5 address this obvious requirement?

Let's say I want to clean up the backup. Seems like the easist thing to do would be to cleam up the computer itself, then delete the current backup and start again. Any better suggestions? For instance, I am sure there are a dozen old quicken datasets, many old files no longer needed, etc. I am concerned about my backup being so bloated it would be cumbersome to restore if I needed to do so. Any thoughts?

We get an occasional request for the ability to delete individual files from the Rebit storage. While under consideration, this feature request is not on the roadmap.

Further feedback on this topic is welcomed.

I don't know if this would count as a "feature" but I don't suppose someone could, pro-actively, do something about the continual Spam which is saturating these forums .... rather than letting it build up till we can't see the wood for the trees and occasionally removing it?

(Didn't know where else to put this topic).

Would like to see the ability to let Rebit run a backup on a schedule. It slows the computer down. So I disconnect the drive, do my work and when do, reconnect. But that is not very satisfactory

I am not running a critical system, which is the type of system Rebit is particularly built for in my opinion or at least Rebit's primary audience.

I would like a feature where, when enabled, Rebit detects CPU usage and, if a network drive, network usage before running a backup. If I am running a CPU intensive process or sending a lot of data through the network, it is likely that I need the CPU and network space Rebit is taking by running live backups. Though I can hit pause, often in a video game or while watching a movie online I will forget to do this. Rebit should be smart enough, like my antivirus software that doesn't run its full system scans when I'm using the machine, to go into a low power mode when the system is being used intensively.

Though I like it that Rebit backs up absolutely everything, I dislike it that the Rebit backup drive is always running. I would like the options to specify "Backup every 30 minutes" or "Backup every hour". I understand part of Rebit's security is regularly backing up everything on the system, but backing up everything every second is a waste of energy. As an energy conscious person, I turn off my Rebit drive most of the time because it is always running when its on.

Having a backup is critical, but I'm the low-end user Rebit was built for - no critical systems. Thus, an hourly backup is plenty.

Moreover, I backup to two locations. One location is a network drive. Particularly because of it's network location, the occasional backup over the regular backup would reduce load on my network.

Hey,

Since we can have multiple backup of the same PC on different media, say a portable USB drive and a NAS (network drive), if both drives are accessible by rebit all the time, its great, both drives will have the same information backuped.

But say I carry around with me my USB drive to work, and run rebit locally there during the day, and then, when I go home and connect my laptop on my network, rebit starts backuping to the network drive.

I have no way of knowing if my USB and my NAS drive both have all the version of all the files I worked on during the day.

For that reason, I would like to see in the rebit browse explorer, a computer icon for each Rebit backup location, eg:

MyComputer on Local Backup Drive

MyComputer on Network \\computer\share

Does that make any sense ?

The current version of Rebit 5 downloads 5.0.1035.10401. This version seems to have a lot of bugs in it. Before I buy a copy (now using trial version) I read on reviews that on Feb 18 version 5.0.1035.105120 was released. How can I get this or newer copies to try before I buy Rebit 5.

The user interface is slick looking but for a first time user it's not a good user experience. When I first opened the software I was looking for the typical menu to navigate through. I saw a small rectangular box. Instructions say go to Settings. How do I get to settings without a menu? Finally, I clicked that little gear icon on the lower right corner. Now I know how to navigate but maybe you should add text next to the icons because I found the discovery process extremely frustrating and I didn't just fall off the turnip truck. Thanks for listening.

Rebit does a continuous check of removable media in the background. When a floppy drive is present at the machine, this results in nasty noises.
As the floppy drive of a desktop computer isn't easily "disconnectable", a software function to exclude specific drives from the check would solve the problem.

I'm suspecting some USB card reader driver to slow down the PC, too. This happens when no card is present and the check occurs. This would be solved by the above feature, too.

I don´t need a Backup of my second Partition. I just need a Backup of my Systempartition.

The Problem is, that all Partitions of my Systemdrive are greyed out.

Not really comfortable.

Will you change this in the near Future?

I would like to be able to recover a whole directory, including sub directories, from a previous date/time in the past. At the moment the application that I use writes to many files at a time. If I want to go back to a previous time I have to go through all of the Rebit sub directories comparing the date and time when they were saved to manually restore the correct files.
If I could access the files directly myself,I think that it would be relatively easy to write an application to do it.

How about an API to the Rebit data?

The only absolute security is found in second backups. Since I regard online backup as less than satisfactory -- some have reported bad experiences when trying to restore -- the answer would be a second backup to a second external drive which would be then moved to another building. This drive might be updated every two or three days, insuring minimum data loss should total disaster occur. The latest two or three days of the primary data sources would also need protection.

But Rebit will not allow this. It works with only one drive. Granted it is great for casual backup -- I really do like this cutting edge product -- but for professional grade protection in depth of data that must never be lost in the worst case scenario, I can't use it. I don't like have two seperate backup systems for different machines, but that's how it is. Rebit is too good to pass up for non-critical machines, but not good enough for the most important stuff.
