Windows 7 pro system.
C drive is a 128GB SSD,
D is a 1TB with 2 partitions.
Lots of externals that I'm not worried about (at the moment)
External 1.5TB USB3 for Rebit
Rebit version: 5.0.1037

The issue...
I am running the back up for the first time, but there is a padlock next to my c drive, I can tick any of the others, including internal partitions, but need to know if my C drive is being backed up (it contains the bits that are a pain to re-install again, and again)?

Given that it takes hours to do a back up, is it going to backup the C drive?

Many thanks

I have installed Rebit and it took about 8 hours to do a complete backup to the attached external harddrive..

I did the same the following day and was surprised it took hours to carry out a complete backup a second time.

I was of the opinion that once Rebit had carried out a backup the first time, from then on it would be a matter of minutes to do a second backup.

I dont want to sit with an external harddrive connected to my laptop everytime I use it, for hours on end.

This kinda stuff is new to me so explain simply please and thanks for your time.

I am running a first backup to a remote USB drive on a windows server that is in a domain. Total backup will be 183GB. It has taken 51 hours to complete the first 50%. Is this typical?

The server the USB drive is connected to is also running windows backup to the same drive but only at scheduled times. Granted it takes away from the Rebit time, but is has used 10 of those hours to back up 135GB twice.

I just noticed that Rebit was backuping up a drive that I had not marked for backup.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I had recently reformatted my backup drive because it was full, and Rebit was no-longer doing backups. I questioned this because the 500gig backup drive was backing up another 500gig drive that was only about 50% full. I can understand why the backup drive got full now that I notice it backing up drives that are not marked for backup.

Looks like there may be a bug.

Let me know if I can get any data to you to help fix it.

Having had rebit 5 recently recommended by Computeractive magazine I have now bought, downloaded and installed 5.0.1035.10828. My OS is Win XP, and my hard drive is 150gb of which 50gb is used, which I'm trying to back up to an 100gb external hard drive (which I have now reformatted to NFTS).
My problem is the status just keeps saying "Preparing to back up" and has been slow like that for over 12 hours, surely this can't be right? The icon on the system tray is green, and I've also uninstalled the software then reinstalled but no joy.
Can anyone help?

Hello,
I have selected 3 detected internal drives as to be saved, but after the first backup, only the system drive C: has been saved : the 3 other drives don't appear in the saved drives !
I have a PC working on Windows 7 system, installed on a SSD Drive, the 3 other partitions whose are not been saved are dynamic NTFS partitions on a single hard drive disk
Space needed for total First backup indicated by rebit 5 for the 4 drives is about 600 Go, space available on the external saving location drive : 1 To
Tanks for a solution

I have been using Rebit 3 for multiple PCs (3) with no problems. Today I purchased Rebit 5 for 3 PCs. Download and installation went fine. I backed up my first PC and created a recovery CD. All went well. Next I plugged my backup drive into my second PC, which currently has Rebit version 3.0.259.8778 installed on it. I thought I would get some prompt to upgrade to Rebit 5 since the backup drive is now has Rebit 5 on it. I didn't. Do I need to download and install Rebit 5 on this second PC just like I did on my first PC?

It has been diagnosed that I need to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium, with all that that entails. Can Rebit help here? Obviously my internal HDD will be reformatted and only have the OS on it to start with. I then would expect reinstall all my software (I suspect some of the present installation may be slightly corrupted). Can I then install Rebit and recover all my original data, or is that a wrong approach?

Hello

I tried to run my new rebit 5 software the first time, and it began to back up drive C, the system, but it doesn't find my internal drive A in the configuration menu, which contains all my personal files. it's a SATA drive which I have recently installed, and it is recognized by the system as usual and works perfectly. But the drive is shown as a possible backup location! Why does rebit not show the drive as a drive that can be backed up?

For that reason I stopped backing up, until I can configure it in the right way.

Thanks for any hint that could help me to solve the problem.

Hi - I have decided not to continue with a Rebit 5 trial, and wish to remove the backup from the External HD. I have followed the Help Guide (Settings / Back up locations / pressed the Red Cross to delete backup). I have also deinstalled the Rebit software (which also asks if I want to delete the backups),but the back up is still there !

I have a brand new HD with a single 24kb document saved (and the only document visible with Explorer), but when I check the amount of the HD used it says 47GB ! Also, when I use disk analyser it shows the folders from the back up.

So, as I cannot "see" the back up when I look at the HD via Explorer, what do I have to do to get rid of the back up ?

Many thanks

I understand icon is different (meaning it isn't frog) but there are no descriptions that help determine which item to mark show icon and notification. Help!

FYI -- if you are using Windows 7, the icon will not automatically be added to the "tray" in the right corner of the task bar. You will have to click the up arrow, select "Customize," and then choose "Show icon and notifications" in order for the icon to appear.
It's not the same as an icon pinned to the task bar.

I have about 230 Gig of data that I am trying to back up to a NAS. I am going wireless at 144Mbps to the router, then USB 2 from the router to the NAS (which is arguably 420Mbps). By my calculations, moving that amount of data at 144Mbps would be at full throttle (which granted you never get) take about 3.5 hours. For testing purposes to rule out the wireless aspect, I went direct wired to the router at 100Mbps (my laptop does not do GigE, although the router does) with no significant change.

Over a 24 hour period it has backed up 0.9% and the network connection percentage in task manager floats from 0% to 1%, with a rare occasional spike to 5%, which may not be Rebit anyway. At this rate it would take over 3 months for the initial backup, and since I am on the 30 day trial, I would never even be able to evaluate the software. I can drag files to the NAS with no problem at near full rate, so there is no networking issue.

Any ideas?

In Rebit 5, when trying to create a recovery CD or USB stick, the operation fails at the end of the download.

In one case, Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 prevents the verification of the downloaded file, causing the failure. Disabling the the Anti Virus temporarily is the work around. This appears to be a bug in the AV suite.

A while back my main hard drive died,..no problem I thought,..I have Rebit,..but I found that my Rebit drive was also dead! The tech said it was because left it plugged in (which I thought was recommended) and it prematurely wore out the disk,..

So now I purchased a docking station with a more sturdy disk (last one was a PASSPORT external disk in a plastic case which the tech said helped to age it because of enclosed heat)

But now, if I understand correctly one CAN"T use two disks? What happened if for what ever reason you have a double failure OR if your house burns down, Tornadoes, earthquakes famine and pestilence happen? It would be nice to have an extra backup off site,...
Carbonite is looking better and better

Hi – I have recently installed a trial of the Rebit 5 software, downloaded from the Rebit website. Machine is Dell, Windows XP SP3. I am not a techie so please be gentle.

I ran Malware Bytes (Virus / Spyware checker) with no problem, but running AVG Internet Security 2011 has indicated 13 (!) viruses apparently within the Rebit software, 3 of which have been quarantined but 10 of which have not (I think because they exceed the archive limit of 5 Mb).

The virus appears to be the Heur.dropper, with most of the viruses logged as follows by AVG :

Application Date \ Rebit 5\Set Up files \ rebit5-services x86-5.0.1035.10828.msi:\BackupInstallFile …….Virus Found Win32/Heur.dropper..... Infected

Can someone tell me what these are and does this mean the Rebit software has major problems ? Perhaps more importantly, how do I remove them (I think AVG will just let me Delete them without quarantining, but is this OK / should I be using something else ?)

Can I assume that if they are deleted from my PC, the Rebit backup I have made will be automatically updated to remove them also (assuming my External HD is connected) ?

Many thanks
