I have a drive that I want to backup to. It's a network drive in the sense that I access it via "My Network Places" in Windows XP and it's listed under "The Internet". I have a secure URL, username and password for it, but it doens't seem entering that info does any good in Rebit. Is it possible to backup to that location?

Hello
When I try all the methods suggested here I still can't find ANY backup files (although it says it is working).
When I access the drive manually here is what I see:
autorun.inf
start.exe

When I use windows explorer, it comes up blank.
Is it backing up (drive says 98gb is used)?
Can anyone help please?
thanks

In order to decide when is the best time for my daily initial backup to take place I would like to know (roughly) how long it takes.
I have looked in the log files but failed to spot the start and end times.
Can you please tell me what to look for?
I will then know when to plug in my backup drive.

I paused Rebit5 and set it to resume in 2 days.
When I look at the Status bar it says backups will resume in 1 day. I have 2 questions:

1. Will backup resume in 48 hours (and not before) when I set it for 2 days?

2. Why does the backup drive keep flashing once or twice a second? Task Manager shows the Rebit-5-Svc.exe consumes 1% or sometimes 2% of the CPU each time the drive flashes. I wonder what it can be doing since backup is paused.

Thanks, dan

Rebit was working fine for weeks. Now it does not start when the computer starts. When I open the dashboard it says "Could not communicate with backup service." I am using an internal hard drive for the backup. I can browse the drive and it seems fine. Any idea where the problem lies? Thanks.

Using a SIIG USB 3.0 card and seagate drive. Rebit can start backing up that drive, but cannot complete the task. Works fine when same drive is connected to USB 2 port. Is this a known compatibility issue?

I've been using Rebit for more than 2 years now. I am backing up to the external drive. Suddenly, today, it tells me that it has not been connected for five days and to reconnect. However, I cannot reconnect. When I right click the tray icon, the only items that are bolded are Help, About and More. More only leads to "Select drives to back up," but that is not bold. When I left click, I am given the Warning that it has not been connected for five days.

Although the drive shows up on My Computer, with the Rebit icon, it shows as empty. I can't tell you which version I'm using, since Properties are not available.

Hi, I have W7 Ulitmate, I5 CPU, 8 Gig Memory and a 500 GB System Disk Drive (C and D). I am backing up to an internal 1TB Disc, this Backup Disc is used with around 80%. When I start my computer Rebit 5 also starts to Backup but needs a lot CPU, also it is locking some Files, for example the Outlook PST File. Final, when I start my computer, it takes 15 mins or more till I can use Mail without problems.

What can I do? I think Rebit should do it's Backups in the Background without any restrictions to any application.

Hello,
I am using the latest version of Rebit (download 2 weeks ago).If I use a program Amibroker (investment software) while Rebit is running, the program (Amibroker)gives an error message stating that it cannot write to a file while it is open.If I pause Rebit or not plug in my external backup drive, my software runs fine. This suggests Rebit is keeping files open while backing up, which concerns me re:potential corruption.
Please advise.

Rebit uses all the connections to my Windows 7 (64bit) machine on which I have a number of disk including a 2T disk for backups. I share a couple of directories so I can have Rebit backup the two laptop machines. When my windows 7 laptop is on and connected to the network with Rebit installed, I cannot access any shared directories on on the 64 bit machine from my XP laptop. When I turn off the windows 7 laptop I can then access network drives with the XP laptop. If I install Rebit on the Lap top it will work for awhile, but soon will lose it's connection to the server. If I uninstall it and reinstall it will work again for awhile.
The error message I get is: "No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept."

Rebit-5 backing up to a NAS Drive.

1 - I had Rebit-5 backing up to a NAS drive. The same drive was also used by a Torrent client to store files. The client frequently reported file access problems. Even when Rebit-5 reported the system fully backed up.

2 - I set up a new backup location on a second NAS drive.I also use a professional 3D CAD program that runs on a workstation but uses this same second NAS drive for file storage.

The CAD program suffers a serious slow-down (to the point where it's essentially unusable) even when Rebit reports that the system is fully backed up (and presumably idling).

3. In each case when I prevented Rebit from loading (by hiding its installation directory and rebooting), the problem went away.

Anyone else seen this using a NAS (or other network drive)?

Edit:

Oh, BTW .... I tried pausing Rebit but that didn't help.

Thanks for this great product. Rebit has been working great but I messsed up recently by hibernating my computer with the backup running and then turning off the backup drive once the computer was off.

I thought the Windows write buffer would be flushed to the backup drive before hibernation, but it didn't. As a result, when I turned the computer back on I got about 10 error messages that data could not be written to the drive and has been lost.

My question is: will Rebit detect this problem and re-backup the lost data, or should I assume that the backup is now corrupted? If the latter, what's the best way to reinitialize my backup?

Thank you!

I just installed rebit on my computer and did a full backup. But now I have two problems, firstly my external hard drive which I backed up to seems to be in constant "processing mode" even though the backup finished yesterday. Also I cannot seem to access my backed up files. I open Rebit 5 from the programmes menu, click on browse backup. It shows a list of files that have been backed up, but I cannot open any of them as they are in a format that my computer doesn't recognise. Is this normal, and if so, what do I do if I actually need to access them?

I am really having a hard time ejecting my external hard drive and I'm concerned I'll cause a problem with my backup if I do something REBIT doesn't like. I have waited until the backup is complete. I've paused REBIT. I have disabled my AV and Malware software. I have also tried stopping the REBIT SERVICE.... all to no avail. The drive won't eject. What is the safest way to eject a drive when Windows won't let go?

Can someone please help me with this?

When I first bought Rebit, it was working great and was saving to my external drive I had bought just for the Rebit. But lately my C drive has been getting smaller and smaller... I got a warning yesterday from Windows that I only had 5 GB of free space left, so I started to try to clear up disk space. I really don't have that much on my computer, just a few Word files and some photos. So I thought it was the photos at first. I deleted almost 300 photos but that freed up less than 1 GB of space. Since I have less than 1000 total photos, I knew it couldn't be that taking up the space...

So I downloaded WinDirStat and it gave me the answer in about a minute: Rebit has taken 869 GB of space (in 955 files) out of my 931 GB C drive! I REALLY need that space back!!! How can Windows update if Rebit is hogging all of the room on my C drive? I don't know why it's storing on the C drive or when it started to do that, but I see the lights (green and blue) on the External Drive so that drive is working I think...The Drive Letter does not show up on my computer though... Where the Rebit is, it just says "Other" and "System folder". I had presumed the "other" was my external drive. I guess not.

I am a bit computer illiterate when it comes to tech stuff, so I need step by step instructions on how to fix this mess.

I also see it has made 109 copies of one of my Word documents. Is that normal? Why so many copies? I am writing novels and other long documents that cannot be finished in one day, so it grows longer day by day. I really do not need 109 backup copies, one or two would be OK.

If I uninstall will it remove all of the backup copies off of my C drive so I can use the space again? And how do I uninstall it?

The Specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
C Drive: 931 GB
Rebit: 869 GB of my C drive

Oh, my version of Rebit is the Single PC one: 3.0.258.8778.

Thanks for your future help.

30 Day evaluation copy of Rebit.

Has not backed up for past 10 days. System Drive is 320 Gig, in several partitions. Backup media is 580 Gig USB Drive.

Rebit claims to have only one restore point on the drive, but somehow that's taking up all but 1.2 of 320 Gig on the backup media.

Manual says to delete a drive from backup to get it going again, but I don't see any Red X next to any of the drives on the Drives to Back Up screen, and see no other route to a Delete Drives screen.

Nor, so far as my math would tell me, should I need to delete a drive,as Rebit clearly has 260 Gig more data stored on the backup device than could possibly be on my the 320 Gig drive I'm seeking to back up.

I tried Rebit 5 after giving up hope on the earlier version of Rebit bundled with a Seagate recovery package. The 580 Gig backup media was reformatted for that purpose. Now 20 days in, Rebit is proving to be just as useless.

Should I just give up on the idea of plug-and-play backup? It seems to be far more energy and trouble than it's worth.

I have seen that some others have similar problems but I have not found a satisfying answer or solution in the forum. I am encountering multiple problems that might or might not be related.

- Rebit claims that my computer is fully backed up. When I looked in the backup in order to copy files to a different computer there were only outdated files and several directories missing. In one case there were only two of the main directories backed up, one the Desktop the other a fairly useless directory, nowhere any documents. In another case it was the documents folder and the desktop, but no settings and other important directories.

- Often when I try to browse the backups, I cannot see all three laptop backups that should be on the drive. Sometimes I see one, sometimes two, sometimes all three. Very strange.

- Even when all three backups are visible, in 9/10 cases I am unable to look into individual folders. Either Windows explorer (Win 7) crashes or I get an endless progress bar (40+ minutes) until I give up.

Rebit failed me now for the second time when I urgently needed to restore files and I wonder why I even bothered to upgrade to Rebit 5. Considering that in each case Rebit made me believe that all files had been backed up, I find the program highly unreliable and certainly far from 'ridiculously simple'.

My Windows Exploer in Windows7 Home Premium is crash prone at the best of times. When using the Rebit-Save-Me folders it is painfully slow and crashes if you look at it the wrong way. Is there any cure and failing that is there a better file manager that works with Rebit (some don't).

Hi,

I have the Rebit version 5.0.1035.10670.

I have internal disk C, D, E and F i want to backing up only my C Drive. In Selectin Drive To Backup i only have the default drive checked. But when Rebit is taking the backup is tryinf to backing up my D, E, and F Drive even if the drives are not checked in "Drives to Back up" Of course the backup is stoped because i dont have enough space on my USB Hard Drive to Backing up 4 internal Drive. How to skipe Rebit to Backing other internal drive.

Thanks.
