In order to decide when is the best time for my daily initial backup to take place I would like to know (roughly) how long it takes.
I have looked in the log files but failed to spot the start and end times.
Can you please tell me what to look for?
I will then know when to plug in my backup drive.
thanks, dan

I have seen that some others have similar problems but I have not found a satisfying answer or solution in the forum. I am encountering multiple problems that might or might not be related.

- Rebit claims that my computer is fully backed up. When I looked in the backup in order to copy files to a different computer there were only outdated files and several directories missing. In one case there were only two of the main directories backed up, one the Desktop the other a fairly useless directory, nowhere any documents. In another case it was the documents folder and the desktop, but no settings and other important directories.

- Often when I try to browse the backups, I cannot see all three laptop backups that should be on the drive. Sometimes I see one, sometimes two, sometimes all three. Very strange.

- Even when all three backups are visible, in 9/10 cases I am unable to look into individual folders. Either Windows explorer (Win 7) crashes or I get an endless progress bar (40+ minutes) until I give up.

Rebit failed me now for the second time when I urgently needed to restore files and I wonder why I even bothered to upgrade to Rebit 5. Considering that in each case Rebit made me believe that all files had been backed up, I find the program highly unreliable and certainly far from 'ridiculously simple'.

I have a dynamic ip connection to the internet through a cable service. I have had, and can get again, a static address through one of the free services. So, with a static ip address to my home modem, is there a way I can set up my daughter's Windows 7 laptop with my 3-license copy of Rebit (she would be the third user, after myself and my wife's PCs)? I have a 3 terabyte drive, partitioned into three 1-terabyte partitions, anticipating one for each of us, in a DLink NAS on my home network. I am delighted in how well Rebit functions for both of us, and want the umbrella extended to my daughter's PC, even though she's 30 minutes away from my home. Can Rebit be configured to backup to a static IP address?

I updated to Rebit5 from Rebit4. I hook up the backup drive, do all the right stuff then get a message that says the drive is dedicated to a different backup program. It says that to use the drive with Rebit5, I must uninstall the program that is residing in my backup drive. How do I do that?? Make it simple please, I am not computer savvy.

Several questions about Rebit 5:
1) Will latest Rebit enable backing up more than one drive (ie main hard drive and one external drive?)
2) Can one save a particular image or must one always restore from the latest version?
3) Can one easily access the backup to select just one file or must one use the Rebit software to do so?
4) Do you still have to have a backup drive devoted only for Rebit?
My questions are based on a recent web review that listed above as drawbacks of Rebit.(IE will backup only one drive, must devote one external drive only to Rebit, can't directly access rebit drive, etc.) I'm hoping latest version has corrected some of them. I read the FAQ and other product information on Rebit website but am not skilled enough to tell if my questions were answered...)

How often does rebit backup registry files? The rebit status states that the system is backed up, but when I compare timestamps, the registry files (e.g. SOFTWARE) on the backup drive are older than the same files on the C drive. I would like to ensure that the registry files are backed up often.

Thank you,

Rebit was slowing down the computer when I use dragon so I called Rebit and they advised me to run the commands below to stop rebit.
sc stop rebitsvc
sc stop rebitsysmonsvc

They advised to run rebit again just restart computer and plug in drive and rebit will work. Currently Rebit is not backing up all my files. I think the files I created when rebit was not operating are not being backed up, even though Rebit program states backup is current. But I was advised temporarily stopping rebit would not affect the backup.

How do I get rebit to backup all my files now??? (states currently backed up but files still missing)

I'm a light home computer user and have happily backed up my hard drive using a single 500GB pc rebit device hooked to my HP Vista 32bit machine. As not much changes from day to day, and the drive is a bit noisy, we'd like to <safely disconnect>, then re-connect, say weekly, to catch up. Question: can disconnect be achieved by simply turning the unit of with the little black switch on the rear of the unit after <safely disconnecting> or must one literally pull out the USB connector? BTW..I agree with previous posters, there is no mention of the functioning of the on-off switch in any of the documentation, or the mechanics of <safely disconnecting>. For less intense users, this discussion would be really useful. Startup was as simple and as successful as advertised!

After installing and clicking finish, a window popped up explaining that Rebit is now backing up my computer & I can see the progress by hovering over the frog icon in the desktop tray, but there is no icon.

My external hard drive is lit up & humming (but noticing a solid light instead of a flickering light which is what it would do when I was backing up files to it) like something is happening, but I cannot verify.

Edit...
Oh, and just for more info - I did disconnect & reconnect the external drive as well as restarted my computer & still does not work. I have also tried starting Rebit by double clicking on the startup.exe file & nothing happens either. Also tried the run F:\Rebit\sbin\RebitInstaller.exe but I get an error saying windows cannot find that file. Where is this file, when I open the F:Rebit drive, the only files that appear are the startup and autorun files.

If I click on the F drive, the only thing that is listed as files are the startup and autorun files. How come there is no icon in my desktop tray? How can I verify it is running? The F drive is labeled as REBIT, so that seems to be ok.

Thanks

Can ReBit back up from one internal hard drive to another? For instance, I have a C drive and a D Drive. The C drive is for programs and the D drive is for data. I also have matching internal drives for C and D. F is an exact match - make and model for C and G is the same for D. Can I use Rebit to backup c to F and D to G?
