The best way to prevent the computer from stalling or freezing during startup is to change the BIOS settings of the computer. This will prevent the computer from attempting to access the Rebit drive during the startup sequence.

To change BIOS settings, it may be necessary to find documentation included with your computer. In general, the sequence of steps is similar to the steps below.

Power off the computer (if necessary, press and hold the power button for 10+ seconds to force the power off)

Power on the computer

Typically, a text message appears at the bottom of the screen shortly after powering on. Repeatedly press and release the key indicated to access system settings or BIOS. If the appropriate key is not indicated, you may find an alternative strategy to work. In succession, press and release the keys F1, F2, F3, up through F12 and also the Esc and Del keys

Typically, a text screen appears with items that can be selected by pressing the arrow keys. In some cases, the selections are oriented vertically with an item like "Boot order" or "Advanced CMOS Settings". In other cases, a menu of items may appear across the top of the screen with items like "Boot" and "Power". Select the item that controls the boot device order. If necessary, sequentially select each available option until you find the boot device order

Follow the directions provided on-screen to move the internal hard disk drive to the first boot priority position

Press F10 or whatever key is indicated to Save and Exit

At this point, the computer should boot from the CD-ROM when it restarts.

With Rebit connected, my computer stalls during startup showing a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner. How do I prevent Rebit from freezing my computer?
