Hi Rebit on its home page talks about Drive Rotation.
Its my understanding that this means if i have two 2 terabite usb drives I can chose which one to backup to and secure the other drive in a safe place, Rebit will then take cre of the house keeping.
Howewver the manual does not cover this topic ( I should mention that I am using Version 5)
I have added both drives via the Dashboard however there is no selection on the Dashboard to select which drive to use.
Also the Help function does not respond.

Does any one have any ideas.

    Regards Mike..........

You will want to ensure both drives are selected as backup locations. To do this, click Settings and select Backup Locations. There, ensure both drives are selected. Once they are selected, Rebit 5 will automatically backup to both, so you can Safely Disconnect one and store it in a safe off-site location. Rebit 5 will backup to the other. When it is time to rotate, Safely Disconnect the first drive and connect the second one. Rebit will catch up and backup everything to the other drive.

The help function should work properly, however, since you are having trouble with it, I would recommend that you contact support directly so that they can troubleshoot this.

    Hi REbit Admin.

    Thanks for your response....

Firstly I have been in touch with support re the help question they sugested I remove any files I wanted from the backup drive, delete Rebit, reformat the backup drive, and re install.
All of which I have done.
The same problem is still there
the Program dose not compleatly uninstall as it remembers the drives and other information.
I must confess that this version (5) seems to be quite buggy and at this stage I wish I could go back to Version 4.
This version (5) also seems to slow down my computer quit considerably to the point where all other programs run or load very slowly.

Does any one have any ideas or sugestions.

FYI the opperating Sys is Windows 7

    Regards Mike.....

    Mike:

I'm having the exact same problems you have described. I have two 1TB USB drives that I'm unable to select at will for drive rotation. I have uninstalled, installed software, and reformatted USB drives trying to clean up previous backup information in Rebit but have been totally unsuccessful. When I attempt to delete an old backup set in Rebit...It just flashes or will prompt for a password (if a paasword is set) but doesn't delete the information. I have purchase two 3-PC copies of Rebit 5 and am at a point to go back to the original version I had been using.

Rick I am sure others are having the same problem.
It would appear reading through some of the bloggs that rebit are working on an update but they wont come clean on a list of all the bugs or workarounds, it looks like they released Version 5 to early which is sad because they had a good product in Version 4.
All the good work they did before will have been for nothing as people will keep away from buggy programs especialy backup and security programs.

I hope they pull thier finger out soon and let customers know whats going on....

I decided to keep away in future even before the bugs surfaced - when I realised that all I got for my bucks was a downloader. Nothing that I could save as a .... well ... backup.

Sure, it guarantees me the latest version (whether I want it or not) but if Rebit goes belly up I'm dead in the water should I need to re-install or migrate to another system.

Even if their server or my ISP goes down at the wrong time it could be a major PITA.

@dnaman- actually, if you purchased just the software, then you are supposed to use your own external hard drive or NAS box. We still have the option to purchase hard drives with out software preloaded on them from our website. Rebit does not backup your system to anything on our end, such as a server. In this respect, Rebit 5 is just like its predecessor.

@Mike- You should delete the Rebit 5 folders from the C:\Program Files\ and the C:\Program Data\ folders after uninstalling to delete any of the databases so that you can reinstall clean.

@Rick- regarding the alternating drives, we are working on figuring out why this does not work in your case. Thank you for your patience.

RebitAdmin, I think you mis-read my post.

My issue is the fact that I don't have an actual copy of the Rebit software that I can use should I need to re-install Rebit at some point. All I get for my money is a *downloader* which gets the software from your server and installs it.

As long as that server is there and reachable by me, fine ... and yes, it means I get the latest version. But can you give me a positive guarantee (as opposed to good intentions) that Rebit will still be in business in a year? 2 years? 5 years? (No one could of course).

Any other software that I've purchased, without exception, has at least given me a tangible copy of the install program.

We offer both, a download only version (which is what you purchased) and actual software that will be shipped to you with the CD. Please go to http://rebit.com/products/rebit/ to see our products. When a customer purchases only the download version, they receive an email with a link to the Rebit 5 installer file. It is easy to burn this file onto a CD and keep it indefinitely in the event that our servers ever do go down.

RebitAdmin, my comment was based on the fact that the installer file was so small (957 KB) and when run, went immediately to the internet and downloaded something much larger. I assumed, therefore that it was just a downloader for the main program (which then auto-installed with no opportunity to save it).

When I queried this with Rebit support, they agreed that it *was* just a downloader.

After I read your message above, I did some tests with the internet disconnected and the installer file does indeed try to access the internet, but reverts to doing an installation itself when it finds it can't connect. It's a very basic install without dialogue but does seem to be there.

In that case, I withdraw my previous comment. Feel free to delete it if you wish. (I could have wished that Rebit support would have correctly explained the situation when I asked).
