Backup has been suspended owing to lack of space

This is a problem for a number of people and now myself as well. Rebit has filled up its drive to 95%, and has stopped backing up with the above error message. The space-identical C: is 70% full and has been that way for some time.

How is this fixed? A suspension of backup is unacceptable for a backup program. My former program required you to start over once a week and required some monitoring but neveer filled the disk. I had hoped Rebit was an automatic set-it-and-forget-it solution. Apparently not.

The status display of "Backup has been suspended owing to lack of space" has been identified as a condition that occurs in a small number of installations but not in others. Rebit is currently working to improve this issue for the upcoming software release in early April, 2010.

In the meantime, we provide 2 options. The first is to reset the backup and start over according to these steps.. The second option is to contact Rebit and schedule a phone call. Click this link to contact Rebit Technical Support.

This problem has not been fixed and April was 10 months ago. This seems like a ridiculous bug. My Rebit drive has 500GB more space than the drive it is supposed to backup.

I had to reset the backup a couple months ago in order to fix the "No snapshots created for X hours" problem and now I am supposed to do it again for another bug that "occurs in a small number of installations"? Can you PLEASE fix this bug?

This is fixed as of version 8778. If you reset to this version you will not see this issue again as Rebit will be able to delete older files to make room for new ones.

Additionally, if you do get the 'Owing due to a lack of space' message, please allow 24 hours for Rebit to resolve this on its own. If it cannot do this, then a reset is required. With 8778 it should not have any trouble removing older data.

I'm working on a Win7 x64 system with this issue, and it is running version 8778... So, the problem does not appear to have been fixed.

I suppose I'll just uninstall and reinstall Rebit... that seems to be the only way to "fix" Rebit... In a couple months I'll get to do it again when it stops working in some other way.

Well, the reinstall failed too... now I have the "disconnected" issue, even though I'm using the .bat file after uninstall.

Please check your systems services to make sure that when you uninstall, and use the .bat file that there are no Rebit services in the list. To get there, right-click My Computer and select Manage. There you will see Services on the left.

If you use the .bat file properly, it will remove all services from there upon a restart. While using the .bat file, make sure to keep pressing Enter through all the prompts until a message comes up telling you to restart.

I was also running 8778 when the problem happened to me (see earlier post in this thread) so I would have to agree that the problem was not fixed in 8778.

That said, after resetting my backup and reinstalling 8778 the backup is working again.

If you have a clean installation of version 8778 you will not see this issue unless your indexes have become corrupt on the drive. The most common ways they become corrupt is by losing power to the unit or unplugging it when it is in the process of backing up. Always use Safely Disconnect before turning off or unplugging the Rebit. Also, if for some reason Safely Disconnect does not work (as it is a Windows program and is by no means perfect) then the best thing to do is to Shut Down the PC and unplug the Rebit after the system is off.
