Conflict with AV solution[s], on-line scanner

I'm using Rebit v3 (SW only, using my own USB2 drive) with a Win XP Pro SP3 installation. It works without issues, but one: the on-line file scanner in my Alwil AV (Avast! 4 Pro) doesn't like the re-bit service which keeps track of the files read and written and vice versa.

There's some sort of deadlock situation triggered almost every time, shortly after the computer (and hence rebit) starts. The symptom is that as soon as an ordinary explorer.exe window is opened and moving the mouse pointer into it, the XP window manager (the login process explorer.exe) hangs completely. At the same time, the Avast! 4 Pro on-line scanner function freezes as far as I've been able to see once this state has been entered.

The only remedy is a logout and/or reboot of the computer.

If the following is done, the lock-up does not occur (so far):
    1) Start computer as usual
    2) Login as a user with admin rights, rebit starts OK
    3) Avast! Pro start OK
    4) Pause the on-line scanner in Avast! as quickly as possible
    5) Let the autostart sequence finish completely
    6) Start using the system normally, rebit does its job OK
    7) Later open an explorer.exe window, check that it works
    8) Re-start the Avast! on-line scanner again

Similarly, if the the Rebit processes in the services section are killed ASAP after startup and then restarted later (manually), the lock-up has never occurred. Of course this isn't proof that it cannot happen, especially since I've not tested this more than a few times -- it's not a supported or proper handling of the rebit SW.

I've tried various things with settings in Avast! 4 Pro e.g. altering the timing(s) in the startup, to no avail.

Is there any solution to this issue (kind of issue)? I've tried to search for any known problems with Rebit + on-line AV protecion processes but found none.
Having to choose between AV on-line protection and Rebit on-line backup is not pleasant.

We're not aware of a conflict with Avast! but I cannot say we have tested with Avast! 4 Pro.

Your description of the Explorer window freezing up leads me to suggest applying a software patch / update. This is likely to improve the Explorer crash.

    Rebit Software Update Instructions

    1. Download the update utility from the link below
      RebitUpdate.exe
    2. Double-click “RebitUpdate.exe” if it does not automatically start
    3. Click “Yes” to allow the computer to restart
    4. Right-click the Rebit tray icon in the lower right corner, and select “More” -> “Activate Software” (the absence of this item indicates the activation already took place)
    5. In the license window, please enter the Rebit license key
    6. Click “Get Activation Code” (if this fails to populate, the window may require a restart – click “Cancel” and start again from Step 4)
    7. Click “Activate”
    8. Click “Close”
    9. Restart the computer

There seems to be a problem with the versions here.
"RebitUpdate.exe" at the link in the above post has these version designations

    Product name: Rebit Update
    Product version: 3.0.258.5646

The Rebit installed in my Win XP Pro SP3 is: 3.0.259.5181

Is this really in order, the update should be a newer version number I assume. Or do I need to send in an inquiry via your Web form to get the latest version?

I went ahed with the RebitUpdate.exe which is essentially a downgrade for me to version 3.0.258.5646.
That's what Rebit -> About now reports.

I cannot activate my software anymore. The license key is correct, but "Get Activation Code" doesn't work at all. I get an exception every time:

Activation.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    Error detals
    AppName: activation.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: msvcr90.dll
    ModVer: 9.0.30729.177 Offset: 000538cc

The net result of all this is that now my Rebit is disabled permanently after this downgrade.

    Please advice

I probably should have asked the question in the first place. The Multi-PC Software is different. Please update your software with the following steps:

    1. Download the update utility from the link below
      RebitUpdateMultiPC.exe
    2. Double-click “RebitUpdateMultiPC.exe” if it does not automatically start

This time around, the software should activate properly.

I believe I am having the same problem with a conflict with AVG anti-virus. Every time I right click on a file in explorer since installing Rebit, explorer freezes and I have to kill it. Explorer also freezes when as soon as I browse to a folder in My Rebit that contains any files.

    I am using build 3.0.258.6452.

Is there a known fix for this issue?

This is quite odd. Would you please send the files found in the folder "C:\Program Files\Rebit\log" to support_at_rebit_dot_com for analysis?

My Rebit SaveMe 3.0.1035.8778 has started to freeze my computer when running on XP & Outlook 2003. I have not had problems before and last backed up 2011.10.10 successfully.
What can I do to get around the conflict?

First off, this is posted under the wrong topic. Second, usually when a computer was running fine and then begins running very slowly there are some kind of conflicts on the system. Either hardware or software. The only way to really know is to look at your system event viewer. Please contact support directly so that we can request these files and help you determine the cause of this slowness.
