Hi All,
I upgraded five PCs from NetSmart to Rebit a few days ago am experiencing a major problem.
The five PCs are connected to a network share (2 TB internal drive) on a Windows 7 PC we use as a file and database server. Not all of the PCs can connect to their network shares at once and users are unable to open files on other shared drives.
I wasted several frustrating hours yesterday trying to troubleshoot the problem, thinking it was a fault with the PC. Finally I looked at Computer Management, the Shared Folders|Sessions section, and found that the PCs with Rebit 5 installed were each using between four and nine sessions to their respective shared folders. Windows 7 allows 20 consecutive sessions to shares and Rebit 5 was using all 20.
As soon as I shut disconnected one of the PCs (that was hogging seven sessions) the remaining ones grabbed all of the available sessions. At no time was it possible for a regular user to open a file in a shared folder.
I left three PCs connected for 24 hours until they Rebit 5 reported that they were fully backed up. The three are still using up all 20 sessions between them. I have not bothered seeing how many sessions a single instance of Rebit 5 might open. I am wondering if this behavior is the cause of some of the problems reported by NAS users.
Is there a reason that Rebit 5 opens so many share sessions to a shared drive? Is there a way to limit the number of sessions Rebit uses?
