I installed Rebit, and it seemed to start doing things. But, how do I know Rebit is really working?

The best way to determine Rebit is working properly is to look for "Recovery Points" in the Properties panel.

    1. Right-click the small Rebit icon in the lower right corner (system tray) and select "Properties"
    2. In the Properties window, click the "My Rebit" tab
    3. Confirm that there is a Recovery Point time for every 24 hours that the Rebit has been connected and the computer has been powered on

In between these time points, Rebit operates in a continuous fashion. While you are using the mouse or keyboard, Rebit remains idle. Then, when a 15-30 second break occurs in mouse and keyboard activity, Rebit copies files that have been created or changed (assuming they were saved).

The Rebit status display appears when you move the mouse over the small Rebit icon in the lower right corner of the screen (the tray icon) and hover or click on the icon. This display should normally display "Backed up as of" with a current date and time.

If the Rebit has been disconnected for a period of time, it intelligently backs up new or changed files when the Rebit is connected once again. When the Rebit software is actively copying files, the Rebit tray icon will brighten and dim. This will not occur while the mouse or keyboard is in use.

No icon in the tray. It comes and goes.
Holding the cursor over a file does not indicate a backup date.
Clicking on the desktop(rebit) icon tells me rebit is connected.

    Confidence is NOT high.

Ok some files do have a rebit backup date and some don't
Given I'm supposed to be able to recover with this beast I am more than a little nervous.

The files that do show a backup date appear to fond of 27 Aug 2010. Today is Sep 12

Please make sure that you have the latest software installed. Depending on your version, the update feature may not be able to upgrade you. If this is the case, you will need to do a reset to the latest software. The instructions are on this post:
