McAfee Antivirus scanner generates an alert related to "C:\Program Files\Rebit\bin\license.dll" or a file like "\Device\HarddiskVolume5\Rebit\data\cfs\XX\{a9ae37ab-2243-4780-8038-93a6f5669b7e}"

McAfee AV scanner alert

The McAfee Antivirus scanner, along with other AV scanners, may alert you to a potential threat related to the "license.dll" file, but this file is safe. It is necessary for normal operation of the Rebit product. Please follow whatever steps necessary to permit the file to remain. If the AV application placed the file in quarantine, do whatever is necessary to release the file from quarantine.
In addition, during the course of normal operations a file may be copied to the Rebit drive that the Antivirus scanner may bring to your attention. Keep in mind that the file being copied is on the system hard drive, so the file has likely been scanned and permitted to remain on the system hard drive. If there is any question about the safety of the file, please run a full-system scan.
The Rebit software will copy all the files of the computer hard drive. These files will remain on the Rebit drive and cannot be executed or cause harm to your computer. After installation, the Rebit software removes the drive letter of the device and creates a "My Rebit" icon in its place. In this way, Rebit attempts to protect itself from virus attacks.

We have several recent reports of a McAfee alert such as the following
Artemis!6df1a4c11c1e[Trojan] file
C:\\programfiles\Rebit\bin\license.dllThis is a false alarm, but you may do the following to prevent this alert:
- Uninstall Rebit using the Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs feature of Windows
- Restart the computer and disconnect Rebit
- Pause or Exit McAfee
- Connect Rebit and install the software as before. Click this link to reset the Rebit if necessary
- Allow the Rebit to complete the initial backup and also ensure the software is activated (right-click the small Rebit icon in the lower right corner tray and select "More" -> "Activate software" -- the lack of this menu item indicates the software is activated)
- Re-enable McAfee or restart the computer

I too am new to Rebit and find the license.dll file being picked up by McAfee as a trojan. I am also getting 54 other files quarantined (trojans) that have Rebit in the title. The license.dll file cannot be fixed or accepted by McAfee. It is detected with every scan. Nor can the other 55 files be restored from quarantine. Does this mean those files are lost if I do a full system restore with Rebit?
In your fix above #3 you state to pause or exit McAfee. That does not seem to be possible. You can only turn off virus protection, spyware, scripts etc. in the configuration menu. Is that what was meant?
Kind of frustrated with this. Thought Rebit was supposed to be simple. It isn't as though McAfee is an obscure oddball program. Any help would be appreciated!Posted 8 months ago # -
In general, we've found that addressing the issue of quarantined files, particularly the license.dll file, can be addressed in only a few ways:
- Disable or pause the "on-access" scanning feature of Anti-virus and malware scanning application(s) during the installation of Rebit software
- Utilize the "white list" or "ignore" list in the anti-virus scanner to specifically treat the "C:\Program Files\Rebit\bin\license.dll" file as safe
- Uninstall the Antivirus scanner, install the Rebit software (and activate it), then re-install the Antivirus scanner
While the last option is excessive, it has proven itself effective when all other options seemed to fail.Posted 7 months ago #
