Rebit cannot connect because MS Volumn Shadow Services is not running, however, when I try to start the service I get a '1067 error'. How do I correct this? I am running Windows XP SP3.

To determine if the Volume Shadow Service is configured on your Rebit Single-PC and Multi-PC, follow these steps:

    1. Click “Start” -> “All Programs” -> “Accessories”
    2. Click “Command Prompt” (NOTE: For Windows Vista and Windows 7, right-click the item and select “Run as Administrator”)
    3. Type
cd C:\Program Files\Rebit\bin\ and press Enter
    4. NOTE: If you have 64 bit Windows, the above sequences should read cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Rebit\bin\

    5. Type
      rbvss.exe C:
      and Enter
    6. Allow the command to complete (30 seconds or more) – the last line should read “Snapshot creation done.”

The lack of “Snapshot creation done.” and the presence of an ERROR value indicates a problem with the Volume Shadow Service.

There are a few things you can try from here, but I will need your Rebit software version to get you the correct steps.

Were you able to create a snapshot using the above process?

If you cannot create a snapshot, then VSS is not working properly on your computer. You should try the steps under Solution 1 at the following link on our forum:

    VSS Repair

Keep in mind that VSS is a Microsoft component that is part of your Windows Operating System. Without it, Rebit cannot work and neither can any other similar backup.
