Rebit 5 help

OK, lets try again - the forum administrators seem to have deleted my last post and questions, presumably because I was critical of their product.

    Questions:
    - Why isn't the product documentation for Rebit 5 on the tab called "Product Documentation' on your web site? Seems a logical place for it. Where is it?

    - Why when I right click on the Rebit 5 icon, then click on 'Help', nothing happens. Same on 2 PC's.

    - Why when I open the Rebit 5 main window and click on the '?', nothing happens. Same on 2 PC's.

    - Finally, the reason I am trying to get help - why does my % backed up just keep restarting at 0%? It seems to be getting further on each occassion before it starts at 0% again, but it appears to me to be entirely useless information. In order to have to find out how much is backed up, I have to sit and watch it to find out how far it gets before it starts at 0% again. Knowing how many files remaining to be backed up was vastly more useful information than this situation.

I hope this posts makes it to the forum....

Dave, have you checked the size of your backup? That sounds suspiciously like what mine was doing - it never actually got to a "backed up" state. Just kept re-backing up and re-backing up.

Meanwhile the size of the backup on my network drive grew from the required, approx 50G to almost 700G ! (see other thread ... "Runaway Rebit")

    Thanks dnaman,

For 2 of my 3 PC's running Rebit 5, I have deleted the old Rebit backups completely from the server (which I hate doing, since I then don't have a backup) and have started the Rebit 5 backup to a blank disk. On those 2 PC's, it seems to be gradually incrementing up towards completion.

For my other PC, I have left the old one there, and it is still incrementing up and down.

I don't think it was a space issue - there was plenty on my server. I think it failed to convert across from the old Rebit to the Rebit 5. Mind you, one of the two ones that were incrementing upand down had supposedly created a Recovery point.

    Hi Elephantoplasty,

I didn't mean a space issue in the sense that you might not have enough. Rather the opposite.

What happened to me is that, with about 3/4 of a terrabyte available for a nominal 50 GB backup, Rebit went on backing up and backing up trying to fill up the whole free space. It backs up and then returns to zero again and backs up again ... and again ... ad nauseum.

This is abberant behaviour on the part of Rebit and it sounded like what you were getting so I suggested that you check the size of the backup to see if it seems excessive.

    Hi dnaman,

OK thanks - I'll check that out.

We are aware of an issue with backing up to NAS, where Rebit 5 has difficulty associating with very large files. Our team has all the pieces to resolve this in a timely manner, so there will be a patch coming out shortly with a solution.
