Rebit 5 Slowdown

Since installing Rebit 5, I have trouble reading & deleting email as well as doing other tasks because, it appears to me, that Rebit 5 is constantly tying up files while doing a backup. I have to "Pause" the backup in order to get anything done. Even when paused, the external hard disk that I use for storage is frequently being accessed as well as is my internal hard disk. I can't find this problem stated elsewhere in the forum, so I suspect I'm doing something wrong.
    Thanks.

I'm also having the same problem.....I have to shut off my drive and then my system comes back to life.

I shouldn't have to turn off a drive that's suppose to be backing up my system.

If you get an answer I surley would like to know the fix

The only answer I've come up with is to uninstall Rebit 5.

I have the same problem Tom ... see my post "Seious <sic> Performance Hit with Rebit 5" from 3 days back. Although in my case, Rebit claimed it was fully backed up and I still got the slowdown. Pausing didn't help either. Preventing Rebit from running did though.

No help as yet and I'm no longer running Rebit (I didn't uninstall - I just renamed the install directory [so that it couldn't load], and rebooted).

Seems this version wasn't really ready for prime time. There seem to be a few serious bugs. Some components, such as removing a backup location, knowingly don't work period. I think perhaps we're alpha testers (not even beta).

The problem seems to be broader than just Rebit 5. I was having problems with Rebit 3.0.258.7905 because it wouldn't create a recovery point. I was told by the support team to reformat the Rebit drive (losing all my backups) and then install Rebit 3.0.258.8778. I did that on February 27--and most file management functions (opening closing, attaching to an email, renaming, etc) are considerably slower. Often as much as a minute to open a small file. I have tried "pausing" Rebit and I didn't see any appreciable change in speed. I don't want to turn off my backups, but this is a very frustrating problem!

Update to my previous post. I tried renaming the Rebit bin directory and the rebitsvc and rebittray files as a test. It was the only way I found to stop rebit from running. All file management fundtions returned to normal speed, so I know it is Rebit that is causing the problem. I just returned the files to their original names and restarted after 24 hours. Rebit is running again--and the file management functions are all slow. Also, Rebit seems to be having difficulty creating a recovery point. I hope I do not have to reformat my Rebit drive again. Wish I had my old version of the software back. It was much more reliable.

I hadn't noticed the problem with Rebit3 but I only ran that "on demand" using a USB drive. Usually, I turned on Rebit when I was away from the machine for a bit and turned it off when I wanted to use the machine again. With Rebit5, I didn't see an option to turn it off - just a <pause> which presumably still leaves some part of the program running.

My experience with programs that run in the background is that there is *always* a performance hit and the more such programs you have (Backup, AV etc) the worse the problem. The hit with Rebit5 though seems particularly bad.

To stop Rebit from running you only have to rename the Rebit5 directory in C:\Program Files (default location) ... say to xRebit5. Then reboot. Easy to undo when/if you want to too.
