Rebit keeps accessing my floppy A: drive

This is the first week I've had Rebit and I love it so far. However, it seems like Rebit is turning on and off the floppy drive on my Vista 32 rig. It doesn't matter if there is or isn't a floppy inserted. It turns on for 20 seconds and off for 5 seconds. The times do vary, though. I tried uninstalling the floppy drive and reinstalling. Now I keep a floppy installed because the noise of the drive is annoying me. Rebit does this even though it's backing up another drive on my system.

Yes that is correct Rebit does check media i.e. floppy drive
The best way to work around is to disconnect the floppy if you are not using or stop/restart Rebit services will take care of this for couple of hours but will come back

Discount the floppy? What's that? It's accessing the floppy drive every few seconds. I don't know how long the floppy drive will hold up under these conditions. When I pull up the list of drives in Rebit, the floppy drive isn't listed. I've disconnected Rebit several times but Rebit keeps going back to "looking" for something in the a: drive after only a few minutes. I only use my floppy drive to store my bios setup and I don't need Rebit to backup that.

Actually Rebit does check every storage media available on a PC
And yes it doesn't backup floppy.
Disconnect floppy means that physically detach power from back of floppy drive, so that Rebit does not check it any more. Whenever you need it connect it back

Does anyone from Rebit read these forums? This bug was reported at least a year ago and still doesn't seem to have been fixed?

    Just an observation:

It might be better to turn off the floppy in the BIOS as an alternative to physically disconnecting it. It's easier to do and it can be turned on again in a hurry if you need to use it occasionally.

However, I agree Rebit shouldn't be doing this. Perhaps it's calling a standard library routine to check all available drives and that routine includes the floppy if there is one.

I was annoyed by the same thing -- Rebit would check the floppy drive several times a minute, resulting in a distracting sound. One does not need to physically disconnect it.

To disable it in Windows XP, go to Control Panel, click on System, then click on Hardware, then on Device Manager. In the list displayed, click on Floppy Disk Drives. You'll then see one listing for the floppy disk drive (or two, in the unlikely event that you have more than one). Click on the floppy disk drive listing to select it, then select Disable from the Action menu. If you ever need that ol' floppy drive, follow the same process to Enable it.

As soon as I Disabled my floppy drive, the annoying sound stopped.

I agree: Rebit should address this in its next upgrade -- ASAP.

This problem is incredibly annoying. Rebit accesses the floppy drive every 30 seconds, and in doing so, slows the system down. This happens as long as the Rebit software is loaded, even if the Rebit backup drive is disconnected.

A hard drive backup program shouldn't be accessing the floppy drive. Rebit needs to fix this problem. I wish I had known about this feature before I bought Rebit.

We will take care of this issue in the upcoming release. In the mean time, please disable your floppy drives if the sound is annoying you. I am still surprised at the amount of people that use this archaic technology.
