My XP computer just died and I would like to purchase a Windows 7 computer. Can the Rebit I used to backup my XP computer be used to install all my programs and files on a Windows 7 computer?

Rebit will format your new drive & will install XP on it.i.e. you will lose your win 7 & system will be unstable due to hardware change
Instead I would recommend you to just drag & drop your data from Rebit to Win 7 machine (off course programs will not be installed) or just get a new hard drive for your died PC & restore it using Rebit

Too late to offer another suggestion, but in the UK there are several companies (including Toshiba) offering PCs pre-installed with Vista, with negligible cost to upgrade to Win 7 and/or free downgrade to XP.

So perhaps install the downgrade to XP (I was surprised how easy this was when I did this), install everything from the Rebit, and then utilise the upgrade path. Some programs may not be Win 7 compatible, I guess.

And I should add I am not technically qualified....

The problem I believe with going to a different computer is the hardware drivers and hardware are not completely the same as the old backed up system. Therefore you can transfer the data but if you try to transfer the complete XP system with programs and drivers from the old computer you may have an unstable system as MAS says above. I think his suggestion of just replacing the hard disk in your old computer is the safest. Make sure the disk interface on the new drive (ie PATA or SATA etc )is same as old drive and the size is equal or greater than old drive.
