My laptop hard drive failed. I was able to sucessfully restore it with SaveMe. A few days later the same hard drive failed again. I was unable to restore it a second time. The second restore seemed normal except that it was way too quick. The disk structure was restored but obviously not all the files were restored and the "restored" laptop will not boot - missing files.

Try an earlier restore point.

I actually did try earlier restore points before I made the first post. Here is the sequence: The fourth and last snapshot on my backup drive is dated 12/8/2010. The laptop failed to boot on 12/15. The hard drive was physically OK, the MBR was OK, but some system files were clobbered so it would not boot. I restored on 12/15 using SaveMe - perfect. I did not do another Rebit backup before exactly the same symptom on 12/22 (MBR OK but some system files clobbered - went to a blank screen during bootup, F8 did not work). I tried BMR again. Normal except the file copy was way too fast (a minute or two). After restart, laptop would not boot. Tried BMR from the first snapshot (11/18). Same result. Tried 4 more times from different snapshots. Same result each time. Now I'm dead in the water. At BMR it says the backup drive is write protected and when I try to browse files from any computer, it sits at the C:/ drive and does nothing - no files show. (I may have aborted the last restore before completion in frustration because I realized you were shut down 12/23 not to open until 12/27.) I have reinstalled the OS on the laptop from scratch and I can reinstall all the applications but I'd sure like access to the files on the backup drive. They represent a lot of lost work which I trusted to Rebit SaveMe.

You will need to contact Rebit Technical Support via email for this one. We will most likely need to repair the databases on the drive and do the recovery for you.
