When I do a backup to use on a different computer must I install the old system files (like Windows, Office, etc) before I install the backup info on Rebit or will rebit install everything from my old system?

If I get a virus do I have to format the hard drive and then install all the system disks before rebit? Or will rebit install everything back like it was?

Rebit will not reinstall your programs onto a different computer for you. This feature is only accessible through a complete restoration intended for the same PC using the Recovery CD. While ou will need to reinstall all of your Programs on a new computer, all the data files associated with those programs are saved on the Rebit drive and can be recovered to the proper directories just like any other file.

If you get a viral attack and would like to "go back in time" prior to the infection, you do not need to format the drive. Simply insert the Recovery CD and you will be able to restore the entire system (operating system, programs, files) to exactly how it was at the recovery point of your choosing.

    Along these same lines...

If a Rebit-protected PC dies and is replaced by a new PC, using the Recovery CD, is it possible to restore the programs/data to the new PC and leave the OS that came on the new PC in tact? Will it update the registry of the new OS with the programs being restored?

Also, if you have a HD crash and replace the drive in the existing PC with a new one, you can restore programs/data and the OS off the Recovery CD, correct?

    Thanks

if my HD crashed and I replaced the drive with a new one, can your software do a complete restore of the Operating System (Win7), the programs and data from your Recovery CD and the USB attached external Backup drive? Please list the steps.

If not possible, list alternate possibilities.

    Thanks

It seems to me this is limited by Windows, not by Rebit. As answered in the FAQ, which currently states:

If my computer is destroyed can I restore to a new computer?

You can recover your entire PC backup from Rebit 5 onto a replacement PC of the exact same make and model in the case of catastrophes like a destroyed PC or a lost or stolen notebook. It is important to note that all of the operating system files that are backed up on your Rebit 5 backup are those used by your previous PC. If the replacement PC is not the exact same make and model as your lost PC, the recovered system files may not allow the new PC to run properly and may not comply with the licensing agreements for your operating system. However, you can recover any files and folders from your Rebit 5 backup to a different PC by connecting the Rebit 5 backup device to the Windows PC and selecting "Browse" when prompted.

Following on from Arjan's post, even if the replacement PC is nominally identical to the previous machine and allows recovery through Rebit, it's likely that the Windows activation check will sense the new machine and refuse to validate the installation.

May need a begging call to MS.
