Is there any reason why my 1 TB harddrive never shuts up...it seems that it's always bieng accessed. It literaly sounds like a heartbeat.
When I looked at the rebit icon it tells me my computer is backed up, so if it's backed up what why in the world is this drive making any noise.
I've already sent this drive back to Rebit and they said they went thru and extensive test and found no problem, and when I talked to them on the phone they are very invasive and also act like they don't understand your problem.
God for bit if I'm using Internet Exlorer or Outlook it never stops, I even upgraded to Rebit5.0 thinking it would help.

    Any help anyone?

I believe it's normal operation even when Rebit is showing the system is fully backed up. I can only assume it keeps checking to see whether any files actually have changed and need backing up.

It used to drive me nuts too with Rebit 3 so I didn't run it continuously - just ran it "on demand" when I figured a new backup was called for (and then walked away for a while).

I bought Rebit 5 because allows backups to networks drives (which are two floors away in my house thereby solving the problem). Unfortunately it also screws up my system so much that I've shut down Rebit altogether for the time being.

Don't get me wrong I love the idea of this system...but I shouldn't have to turn it off and on when I feel it needs to backed up, Its suppose to be automatic if you know what I me.

Yes, I agree 100% - you shouldn't have to turn it on and off (nor do the Rebit people intend you to). I just did that with V3 using a local (USB) hard-drive because it was the lesser of two evils.

Using V5 and a remote NAS drive should have solved the problem and allowed me to run Rebit continuously as intended. Unfortunately the performance hit made that unworkable.

As far as I know you're not missing anything. I think it's normal operation. You either live with the constant sound of the USB drive running or you ..... don't.

You could try a long USB cable I guess and move the drive farther away or bury it behind something. Might help if you can be bothered. USB is a bit limited on maximum cable length though. (Google would probably tell you the max.)

Don't be tempted to "insulate' the drive with anything though. Many of these drives are not well cooled and with a drive that's being accessed continuously, that would be asking for trouble.
