Why is there no Recovery Point today?

The Rebit software is set to capture a “Recovery Point” every 24 hours. If the Rebit is disconnected or the computer is powered off, the Recovery Point will be captured at the next available time that the computer is on and the Rebit is connected.

The initial installation successfully captures one of these points. So, the next Recovery Point would be captured around 2pm also. This Recovery Point processing utilizes the Microsoft Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service to create a static “view” of the disk and any open files in order to collect the relevant data necessary for full-system recovery.

In between these Recovery Point times, the Rebit software is in Continuous Data Protection mode. Files that are created or changed are copied to the Rebit. While you use the mouse and keyboard, the Rebit software remains idle. As soon as you stop using the mouse and keyboard for 15-30 seconds, the software copies files until it catches up or you move the mouse again.

It is possible to “force” a Recovery Point, but not terribly convenient. If you introduce a storage device, such as an NTFS formatted USB flash drive, you can add the item to the backup set. This addition forces the creation of a Recovery Point, and this becomes the new set point for the 24 hour clock.

Simply follow these steps to force a Recovery Point.

    1. Connect a NTFS-formatted USB flash drive
    2. Right-click the Rebit tray icon in the lower right corner (near the clock)
    3. Select “More” -> “Select drives to back up”
    4. Click to select the checkbox beside the drive
    5. Click “Ok”

Am I reading this correctly? If I install Rebit at 5AM one morning (at which time I assume it will capture a recovery point), and my computer is not on at 5AM for the next year (though it may be on from 8AM to 10PM every day), it will NOT AUTOMATICALLY CAPTURE ANOTHER RECOVERY POINT FOR A YEAR?
If that's the case, is this omission present in SaveMe, too?

It would be very convenient to manually set a Recovery Point in the Rebit Menu. I think about setting one for example before a software installation. If anything goes wrong, I can put my system back to the point exactly before the installation process. In addition, it would than be good to set several point during a day, not only one.

Are there any plans for such features in the future?

  4. The user should be able to set manual recovery points or set the frequency/start time manually.

avalonnyc: your question about the Recovery Point and the example of 5am are not a concern with the Rebit product. There is a 24 hour clock, and if the computer is not powered on, the next opportunity will be utilized to create a recovery point. Therefore, if you wished to shift the time at which Recovery Point processing occurs, it is possible to leave the device disconnected for more than 24 hours and then connect it again. The Recovery Point would be created at this new time of day so long as the computer is on and the device connected.

I'm interested to know what the actual status of this topic is. Dear Administrator, will manual recovery points be implemented to Rebit software soon?

Again I ask about this feature of setting manual Recovery Points.

I actually do not use Rebit because of this point.
